Main research interests

Main scientific interests are focused on studying the genes active in the brain.
Research is carried out in two areas: the study of structural and functional organization of the SGMS1 gene, encoding the enzyme sphingomyelin synthase 1, and the study of molecular mechanisms of neuroprotective action of peptides in ischemic brain damage.
The structure of SGMS1 gene had been identified, and a number of alternative transcripts had been discovered. It is shown that in the regulation of this gene the mechanisms using alternative promoters, alternative splicing and alternative polyadenylation. In the experimental models of cerebral ischemia in rats it was revealed a number of genes, which is changed expression after application of semax and Pro-Gly-Pro (PGP) neuropeptides. It was shown the effect of synthetic peptides on a range of biological processes that contribute to the functioning of various body systems. For the first time it was revealed semax effect on the immune and vascular system in conditions of ischemic injury.

Teaching activities

It was prepared more than ten graduate theses.
Dissertation leadership: four PhD theses had been defended, two PhD theses are preparing to defend. Supervisor of postgraduate students: Fillioenkov IB, Kalinichenko EO.
